for example to build muscle, the body can go into what’s called a catabolic phase. Not only does the body start getting rid of fat but also starts to breakdown protein. This can lead to loss of muscle and definition as well as make you feel lethargic and generally unwell.
A lot of bodybuilders go through a phase of extreme dieting to cut. That is to get rid of the fat layer to increase definition. When they get on stage they can look great, with tremendous ripped muscles, but in reality they feel anything but great. I’ve seen bodybuilders on the verge of collapse before going on stage.

You could be on the best regime and do the right exercises but you’re not going to burn body fat by eating half a dozen donuts a day. Also, if you’re looking to increase your muscle tone or build muscle, burning fat can provide a way of getting rid of the fat but keeping and actually increasing muscle mass if you so wish. No more bulking up and then cutting. These extreme cycles can damage the body and make you feel very unwell.
